Violent incidents took place in the center of Chania at noon on Sunday, on the anniversary of the murder of Alexis Grigoropoulos which took place today, December 6.
Dozens of protesters gathered in the square of the municipal market, with a MAT squad around them.
MAT men surrounded the protesters, who protested because they could not keep their distance.
The first nudges started and then spraying, click flash and violent collision.
The gathered people kept shouting slogans on the spot and amid the tension, the police proceeded to arrest 9 civilians who were taken to the city police building. Those on the scene asked the police to release the suspects while a small group of those in attendance marched on Kydonias Street.
By decision of the leader of ELAS, published Saturday morning, meetings on Sunday, December 6 have been banned throughout Greece due to the coronavirus.
According to the decision, more than four people are prohibited from participating in the meetings and the decision is valid from December 6 at 5 a.m. to midnight, the day Alexandros Grigoropoulos was murdered.
