Archaeological research begins at the Mycenaean Acropolis of the Glava in Boeotia – Newsbeast

The programming agreement with the Ministry of Culture was signed by Kostia Bakoyannis, regional coordinator of Sterea Ellada, for the initiation of archaeological research at the Acropolis of Gla in Viotia and the preparation of a plan for the protection and promotion of the site.

The implementation and management supervisor of this five-year program is the Department of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities of the Ministry of Culture and has granted permission to the Archaeological Society of Athens to carry out its activities.

With financing from the Region, documentation, surveying, surface research, geophysical research, excavation research and the preparation of an Intervention Framework for the protection and management of the Acropolis will be carried out.

The Mycenaean acropolis of Gla is built on a steep cliff on the eastern edge of the tectonic migration of Copais. The plateau was reinforced in Mycenaean times with a powerful cyclopean wall, with an area of 200 hectares, ten times Tiryns and Athens, and seven times the Mycenaeans.

The rock was first inhabited in the Neolithic period when the plain was a lake and the same island. It was fortified and rebuilt in the 13th century BC to become the economic and technical center of the drainage operation of the Lake Copais, as well as a gathering place for the increased agricultural products of the area. The peculiarity of the position lies, among other things, in the correlation with the technical realization of the drainage of the lake Copais, which depicts myths and traditions that survived the historical times as one of the most impressive and grand works of Greek prehistoric times.

Kostas Bakoyannis said after signing the contract:

"Our Solid's history goes beyond us, it is our responsibility to bring the hidden treasures from one end to the other. The Mycenaean Acropolis is still a great monument that is emphasized and protected by the region. am very pleased that it comes exactly within a month after the work of the restoration of Tropeios of Sulla. Therefore, I want the management of the Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities of the Ministry of Culture and Sport, the Archaeological Association of Athens and the Ephorate of Antiquities or thank Viotia, such civilization works add value to our daily efforts and mortgages for the future.
