A new road bridge has been built on Ipoly between the Ipolyvaros of Slovakia and the Őrhalom in Hungary.

On Wednesday, the Slovak government approved the draft intergovernmental agreement on the construction of a joint bridge between Slovakia and Hungary, which allows junctions for passenger cars, light trucks of 3.5 tonnes, pedestrians and cyclists, MOL announced Karolína Ducka , spokesman for the Ministry of Transport and Construction.

The Slovak Ministry of Transport has developed a proposal for the implementation of a common border bridge as a gesture of intergovernmental agreements on transport infrastructure. On the Slovak side, Ipolyvarbó is responsible for the preparation and construction of the bridge at the level of the investors, with the support of the Banska Bystrica province. The financing of the construction project is planned to be carried out from the funds of the Interreg V-A Slovakia-Hungary 2014-2020 cooperation program, the funds from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Slovak Republic and the budget of Besztercebánya County.

At present, only a wooden bridge offers connections between Ipolyvarbo and Őrhalom, where pedestrians and cyclists can only cross. The new road bridge will not only serve them, but will also be open to trucks of less than 3.5 tons and international passenger cars, "said the spokesman.
