Marvel and James Gunn have just had a meeting on his future, here's what they decided hollywood

Disney Studios boss Alan Horn and deposed director James Gunn had a meeting earlier this week, reports Variety. The agenda was to discuss whether or not there was a chance to be brought back to the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, a film from which he was fired in July, after some controversial tweets he had done years before were brought to light.

The report describes the meeting as a hasty farewell, face to face, to Gunn, fans and support of the cast for whom, had kept alive the hopes of his return. The director was quickly fired after commentators on the right discovered old tweets in which the then provocative director had made jokes about pedophilia and rape.

Just a few hours ago, star Chris Pratt had expressed hope that all parties could reach a compromise and that Gunn could return. Pratt and the entire central cast of the films had also signed an open letter that expressed their support for Gunn, who, according to them, deserved a second chance. Dave Bautista, who plays Drax in the series, had even threatened to stop writing the screenplay for Gunn.

Gunn was screenwriter and director of the Guardians of the Galaxy series from the start, taking an obscure Marvel Comics title on a group of misfits and turning it into a space-filled work of art with comedy and retro music that made Pratt a great movie star. Through two installments, the franchise brought over $ 1.5 billion in the global box office.

The head of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, was not present at the meeting because he was out of town. The report says that Feige supports Disney's decision not to summarize Gunn.

Once back, the studios will continue their search for a substitute. It is assumed that the studios are planning to keep Gunn's screenplay for the film, but they expect the replacement director to spend some time rewriting it to put their stamp on it.

Guardians 3 were provisionally positioned to begin shooting at the start of 2019.
