Teeth play an important role in digestion because they are at the beginning of the whole process.
To keep the teeth strong and healthy, it is important to follow a diet that supports the health of the bones.
Calcium plays an important role in bone health. To get calcium, most people think of milk and other dairy products, but there are many more options. Dark, leaf-green vegetables such as broccoli and kale are a great source. Some seeds and nuts, such as chia, sesame and almonds, also offer calcium. Many foods are enriched with calcium, such as non-milky milk and cereals.
In order for our body to absorb the calcium and use it for the health of the bones, we need vitamin D. This vitamin is found in oily fish, such as salmon, and is also enriched to some foods. Look at food labels to check if food is enriched. Our body needs sun to process vitamin D, so it's good to get some sunshine.
A mineral that is involved in the health of the bones is magnesium. This nutrient is also found in green leafy vegetables and seeds. Other sources are legumes, whole grains and avocado.
With the addition of these foods to your diet and some sunlight, bones, including teeth, will have a better chance of staying strong and healthy.
