The World Health Organization recommends a portion size of 1-2 per week and that is because the omega-3 fatty acids in fish provide multiple health benefits and are believed to help prevent many cardiovascular diseases, skin conditions and mental disorders.
The importance of omega-3 fatty acids in mind is the top five benefits of fish oil.
Good for the health of the heart: Omega-3 fatty acids increase your HDL (good cholesterol) and also reduce the amount of fatty acids that are taken in the liver, slowing fatty acid synthesis and inhibiting the enzymes that produce triglycerides in the blood. Numerous studies have shown that people who eat a lot of fish have a lower percentage of heart disease.
Helps reduce inflammation: Several studies have been done to prove that fish oils have certain anti-inflammatory properties that can help in the treatment of chronic inflammation, such as obesity, diabetes and depression. A study of 21 subjects showed that fish oil supplements reduced waist circumference and waist-to-hip ratio.
