The dog of a 14-year-old girl attacked and bit one of the two men who would have raped her here in Madhya Pradesh, forcing them to flee, police said today. The incident took place on Friday evening in Kareela village of Sagar district, a policeman said, adding that the duo was later arrested.

On the night of the incident, the underage girl went out of her house to make animal feed to create smoke for keeping mosquitoes at bay, said Motinagar's responsible police station, Vipin Tamrakar. When she came out of the house, two people, identified as Aishu Ahirwar (39) and Punit Ahirwar (24), conquered her and brought her to a nearby abandoned cabin at a point where they allegedly raped her, he said. The girl screamed for help and her dog reached the spot and bit Aishu Ahirwar on his leg.

The accused attacked the dog with the knife, but the dog kept barking, Tamrakar said and quoted the victim. The victim released from the accused's claws and ran to her house. After hearing the sound and the constant barking of the dog, people from neighboring houses rushed to the hut, so the duo had to run away, he added. The victim's family filed a complaint on Saturday after which the two were arrested yesterday, he said. The duo has been booked for rape and kidnapping among relevant departments of the IPC and also under the POCSO law (Protection of children against sexual offenses), the policeman said.
