& # 39; Genuine female devotees & # 39; by Lord Ayyappa who probably will not visit the Sabarimala temple: Chief of TDB

Travancore Devaswom Chairman A Padmakumar said on Sunday that "true female worshipers" of Lord Ayyappa probably will not go to the Sabarimala Temple and that only "female activists" will undertake the pilgrimage.

The board of directors will also consider submitting a petition to the apex court, citing the difficulties and challenges it faces in the execution of its mandate, he said.

Disappointing about the verdict, Padmakumar said the apex court had considered only constitutional, fundamental and gender issues, considering the entry of women into the sanctuary.

The unique geographical aspects and specific conditions in the hill temple must also have been taken into consideration, he said. "During the final annual pilgrim season, devotees had to wait more than 17 consecutive hours on a given day due to the unprecedented rush," Padmakumar told PTI.

Around 5.5 were the devotees of lakh at the shrine during the last day & # 39; Makaravilakku & # 39; on January 14.

"Is it possible for women to walk miles through the forest path and stand among the crowds?" he said. The Chief of the TDB said the true devotees who respect the traditions and rituals of Sabarimala and who know that the circumstances were probably not there to visit the sanctuary.

"Only a few female activists are expected to go into the holy hill in the name of the verdict," he said.

However, the TDB will provide all possible facilities to female devotees who will reach the sanctuary from October 16, when it opens for the three-month annual pilgrimage season this year, said Mr. Padmakumar.

It will be very difficult and challenging for the Council to offer special services to devotees in the current context, he said.
