On the eve of the clash between India and Pakistan in the current Asian Cup, former pacer Zaheer Khan said that veteran Mahendra Singh Dhoni should be at the crucial number 4 position due to his vast experience. The former speedster of the left-hand head also felt that the hundred hit by K L Rahul in the last and the fifth Test against England last week will strengthen his confidence in the continental showpiece held in the UAE.
"At number 4 I feel that someone like MS Dhoni has to give a lead, because keeping the World Cup in mind, it is a very crucial position to enjoy pressure and play in accordance with the situation," Zaheer, a Star Sports Select Dugout expert, said in a statement Tuesday.
"So far the Indian team has won matches when they had a good start, but in situations where they do not have a good start, experience is required to control the situation," the 39-year-old, a veteran of 92 tests and 200 one-day internationals.
India, which started their Hungarian Cup campaign against Hong Kong Hong Kong on Tuesday night, will take on Wednesday against the arch rival Pakistan. Regular skipper Virat Kohli is reassured for the Asia Cup after a grueling journey in England and Rohit Sharma leads the team.
"Rahul will get some confidence from his last test party, and the brilliant 150 (149) he scored should give him enough self-confidence.
"He should be the third, because Rohit (Sharma) and Shikhar (Dhawan) are extremely consistent to battle one and two and Rahul will fill the gap with regard to Kohli," Zaheer remarked.
