Taufik Call KPU can again violate the law as Mark Ex Corruptors in ballots

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Chairman of the DKI Jakarta Gerindra party DPD Mohamad Taufik presented the decision on the discourse of marking the former corrupt members in the vote to the General Election Committee (KPU). However, he believed that this could possibly violate the electoral law if it is realized.

"There can be no other signs at the ballot. If there are other signs, it is illegal. But it is up to the KPU to do what it is, as long as it does not violate the law," said Taufik in the DKI Jakarta Regional Parliament. Building, Jalan Kebon Sirih, Tuesday (18) / 9/2018).

Taufik said that this type of regulation was actually implemented in the legislative election of 2014. Legislative candidates for former prisoners must make their status known to the public. He thought that was enough.

He handed this decision to the KPU as long as it did not violate the law. According to him, however, it violates the electoral law.

The discourse to mark candidates for ex-prisoners of corruption cases on ballot papers came after the Supreme Court's judicial review of Article 4 (3) of the KPU Regulation (PKPU) Number 20 of 2018, which prohibits advanced corruption convicts as candidate legislator.

In his decision, the Supreme Court stated that the prohibition of former prisoners of corruption cases to legal candidates was in violation of the electoral law. The decision made by ex-corrumpors is a candidate.
