JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Although the decision to appoint Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita as Minister for Social Affairs was sudden, President Joko Widodo stressed that his decision was still based on considerations of competence.
"First of all, I think everybody knows," said Jokowi, Friday (08/24/2018), after the inauguration of Agus in the State Palace, Jakarta.
In addition, Agus Gumiwang also deals with social affairs and welfare in the DPP of the Golkar party.
"He is also in the DPP of the Golkar party regarding welfare issues, I think our choice is not far away," said Jokowi.

It is known that Agus is currently the coordinator of Youth, Women and Social Innovation and acting chairman of the DKI Jakarta DPD of the Golkar party. Agus was previously chairman of the DPP of Golkar Party.
Therefore, when Idrus Marham filed a resignation letter on Friday afternoon as a social minister, he immediately coordinated with Golkar group leader Airlangga Hartarto to find a replacement for Idrus.
"There are things at the Ministry of Social Affairs urgent, namely the treatment of earthquake dam in NTB. That's why I immediately decided to replace it, "Jokowi said.
"I asked Golkar president Airlangga Hartarto to appoint Pak Agus Gumiwang as social minister," he continued.

According to reports, the Golkar politician, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, officially served as Minister of Social Affairs to replace Idrus Marham.
His new position was performed by the inaugural procession led by President Joko Widodo, Friday (08/24/2018) at 15:20 WIB in the state palace, Jakarta.
The inaugural procession begins with the reading of Presidential Decree Number 148p of 2018 concerning the Dismissal and Appointment of the Minister of Social Affairs in the remaining Term 2014-2019 by the deputy of the Ministry of Administrative Affairs of the State Secretariat Cecep Sutiawan.
"Establishing, firstly, the rejection of Brother Idrus Marham as the social minister of the work cabinet in the remaining period of 2014-2019, accompanied by thanks for the service of the country and the state during this position," Cecep said.
"Second, appoint Mr. Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita as the social minister of the work cabinet in the remaining term of the period 2014-2019," he continued.
President Joko Widodo installed Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita as Minister of Social Affairs to replace Idrus Marham.
The presidential decree came into force from the time of the inauguration and was directly adopted by President Joko Widodo on 24 August 2018.
