Vice-president of the MPR criticizes the government that hesitates to turn the earthquake in Lombok into a national disaster



JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Deputy Chairman of the People's Council of Assembly Hidayat Nur Wahid criticized the reason for the government that so far has not set up an earthquake in Lombok as a national disaster.

Hidayat thought it inappropriate for the government to assume that the determination of national disasters would upset the tourism sector in Lombok.

"It is inappropriate, dong, only for the sake of tourism, thousands of victims were injured, hundreds of victims died and tens of thousands of houses were damaged," said Hidayat in the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday (08/20/2018).

"The psychological state of millions of people can be disrupted and then sacrificed only in favor of tourism, instead in foreign quotes," he added.

Hidayat is of the opinion that the determination of national disasters will not affect the tourism sector in Lombok.

According to him, the international community will increasingly appreciate the steps taken by the government to overcome the situation after the earthquake by setting national disasters.

"They saw that Indonesia was really safe, peaceful, lived in harmony, so there was an extraordinary empathy, perhaps they even fell in love with Indonesia, while at the same time bringing relief from the earthquake in Lombok," said the Prosperous Justice Party politician. (PKS) it.

Hidayat also hopes that the government will immediately identify the earthquake in Lombok as a national disaster, since the displaced people are experiencing trauma and psychological disorders that need to be treated with care by the government.

"It's better, we do not know if there will be a new earthquake later, residents say there, let alone 6.9, they're already very scared of scale 4, the trauma is very unusual," Hidayat said.

Maritime coordinating minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan revealed the reason why President Joko Widodo had not yet established an earthquake in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, as a national disaster.

According to him, President Jokowi worries that tourism in Lombok and its surroundings will be disturbed if the status rises to national disasters.

"If you use the national disaster terminology later on a travel warning, it will be a hassle," said Luhut at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Monday (08/20/2018).

According to him, the government has previous experience with establishing this national disaster.

"Our experience is directly implemented in Bali, as we say national disasters," said Luhut, whose hand was moving to show a downward trend.

Although the earthquake in Lombok was not identified as a national disaster, Luhut ensured that the treatment by the government was maximized.

In fact, President Jokowi will immediately give a presidential (presidential) instruction that will make the handling of the earthquake in Lombok more integrated.

"So that everyone is more integrated in the handling than standards, the president offers standards," he said.

Compass TV President Joko Widodo said that if a presidential instruction is prepared as a legal umbrella for disaster management.
