Tributes are made to the 'passionate, humorous and very witty & # 39; young man who died during a traffic accident on Saturday.

David Walsh (28), of Burrishoole, at Newport, Co. Mayo, died after his car crashed into a tide river that flowed into Clew Bay.

The local club, Glenhest Rovers FC, paid tribute to the young man in a post on Facebook in which he described him as a "man you can always trust".

"It is with a heavy heart that we have to confirm the death of our inspiring club member David Walsh.

"Without a doubt the heaviest and most sad day and days this club has ever known and a dark shadow over the club and the wider community of Newport has been cast with the shock news.

"Walshy has been a clubman through and through since he joined the club as a new face loaded on U12.

"A fantastic player leader, passionate, humorous and very witty, competitive, a good friend, teammate and a good character."

David played for local GAA club Burrishoole as well as football club Glenhest Rovers FC.

Meanwhile, City Councilor Christy Hyland, who knew the family, said that the incident "leaves a dark cloud over West Mayo this weekend" and said he was devastated, this could happen to "such nice people".

He said that the family in the area was known.

Gardaí confirmed that a man's body was discovered at 7 am on a Saturday morning when a car was recovered from the Newport River.

An investigation was initiated and the road was closed for forensic investigation.

A funeralism will take place on Wednesday afternoon followed by a funeral at the Burrishoole cemetery.
