There is a Garda research going on in Co. Clare after the discovery of a car in a lake led to a major search and rescue operation.
Around 5.45 pm alarm was sounded when Gardaí received a report from a vehicle in Lake Inchiquin at Corofin.
On arrival locally, the local Gardaí used a fishing boat to drive to the vehicle that was immersed about 30 meters from the coast.
One officer broke the rear window and the sunroof to check if anyone was inside.
In the meantime, units of the Ennistymon and Ennis fire brigade raced to the scene along with an ambulance and more Garda units.
The Doolin unit of the Irish Coast Guard was also alarmed and asked to find their way to the stage.
The Coast Guard respondents were put on their way to the incident while ambulance paramedics waited for the lake until it was confirmed that there was no victim.
Firefighters managed to tow the car onto the slipway where Gardaí carried out a first survey in an attempt to identify the vehicle and its owner. The car has been removed for further technical tests.
Gardaí van Corofin is investigating the incident.
