Gardaí is looking for an attacker after the man is stabbed in the Limerick pub

Gardaí said they were following a clear line of research after a man "stabbing" stab wounds in a pub in Limerick last night.

According to local sources, a man stormed the North Star pub, Thomondgate, and stabbed the victim several times before he fled.

The victim is known to Gardaí and has at least one condemnation for possession of drugs for sale or supply, according to sources.

Gardaí is now hunting the attacker who immediately fled the pub.

"Gardaí in Henry St is investigating an attack incident that took place in a café in Thomondgate at about 8:45 pm, August 21, 2018," said a spokesperson for Garda.

"A man in his late thirties got visible stab wounds and was taken to University Hospital Limerick, and his injuries are not supposed to be life-threatening," the spokesman said. "No arrests have been made and the investigation is still ongoing."

Slight stab injury

The victim was treated by paramedics on the spot before being taken to the University Hospital Limerick by ambulance.

A second man – who thought he had tried to get help from the victim – had a slight stab wound and was also taken to the same hospital.

Gardai is investigating CCTV from the pub and the surrounding area as part of their research, said Inspector Derek Smart, Henry Street Garda station, who is leading the investigation.

It is clear that there were a number of people in the pub when the incident occurred.

"We follow a clear line of research," said a Garda source.

In a separate and unrelated incident, a man in his twenties fights for his life after he was allegedly stabbed in the morning in a house in Caherdavin, in Limerick, early Monday morning. The man is said to be in a critical condition at Cork University Hospital.

A second man who suffered stab wounds in the same incident is being treated for minor injuries at University Hospital Limerick.
