Freelance journalist Gemma O & # 39; Doherty has announced that she plans to work for the presidency.
She joins Dragon's Den-star Gavin Duffy, who is already ordering local councils to get a nomination, along with Senator Joan Freeman and artist Kevin Sharkey.
Galway senator Pádraig Ó Céidigh and businessman Sean Gallagher also consider going against President Michael D Higgins who will arrive for a second term.
Announcement of her intention to lead this evening, Mrs O & # 39; Doherty said: "As an Irish woman who loves her country to the core but hardly recognizes it, I am deeply concerned about the unimaginable suffering and chaos to which so many of our people are exposed on a daily basis.
In a statement she said that now is the time for Irish people to come together to demand change and to an end to what she described as "the corruption that has forgiven Irish public life and the shameful waste of our taxes and resources."
"We owe it to ourselves, our children, the reputation of our country and our ancestors had a far different view of this beautiful island that is our home. It is time to demand a new Ireland.
"For these reasons, I decided to nominate myself for the presidency, it is not a decision that I have become too light-skinned, but I believe that the country and people are ready for change," the statement said.
