A man was arrested after a woman died in a stab in Dundalk, Co Louth.
Emergency services and gardai raced on the spot after the incident took place at 2.45 pm this afternoon.
A man, 48, has been arrested in connection with the incident.
The incident happened on Linenhall Street in the city.
Eyewitnesses said that there were about eight guards and three ambulances on the spot.

Linenhall Street was closed to traffic when the investigation was continued.
The woman, 31, was badly injured but has since died.
She was transferred to the Our Lady Of Lourdes hospital in Drogheda.
She is supposed to come originally from Lithuania.
AA Roadwatch posted on Twitter: "Linenhall St in Dundalk closed due to incident."
Gardai sent a call for witnesses and information.
They said in a statement: "Gardai on Dundalk is investigating a fatal sting today, Tuesday 18 September 2018 appeals to witnesses and information.
"A 31-year-old woman was seriously injured and soon afterwards was declared dead in the Notre-Dame de Lourdes hospital in Drogheda, a 48-year-old man remains in custody of Garda.
"The incident took place on Linenhall Street in an area called Bridgewater Mews at about 2.45 pm.
"Examining Gardai appeals to every person who has experienced the attack or who has information or to drivers who have dash cam images to contact the incident room at Dundalk Garda Station on 042-9388400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or a Garda station.
"Research is continuing."
