Irish fish has been bitten by a shark, which has been seriously injured.
The Belfast man fished Saturday night off the coast of Crosshaven in Cork, when RNLI volunteers were phoned around 18.00 that he had been bitten by a blue shark.
The deep-sea fishing boat Deora De was steamed from the coast to Crosshaven from about 13 miles and met the lifeboat of the RNLI about four miles south of Roches Point.
The man had received first aid from the crew on board before being transferred to the lifeboat, where further accident care was provided.
The lifeboat was received at Crosshaven by a NAS paramedic who transported the victim to Cork University Hospital.
The man had suffered a forearm injury.
Crosshaven RNLI added: "We wish the patient well."
