Peter Casey willing to spend up to € 750,000 on a presidential campaign

Kerry County Council has voted to nominate Peter Casey, the businessman and RTÉ Dragon's Nest star as candidate for the presidential election.

After the meeting, Mr Casey said he was confident that he would receive the necessary three other councils to support him. He also said that he could not run to lose and was willing to spend up to the € 750,000 limit.

In total, 14 people had contacted the council to request a nomination for the presidency, the Mayor of Kerry Norma Foley who was outlined at the beginning of the procedure.

Three nominees were presented and seconded. Gemma O & # 39; Doherty was proposed and seconded by Sinn Féin; William Delaney was proposed by Independent Cllr Brendan Cronin and jointly seconded by Robert Beasley and Michael Gleeson (Ind) of Sinn Féin.

Peter Casey was presented by Fianna Fáil councilor Michael Cahill and seconded by Independent Cllr Johnny Healy.

Mr. Cahill said that Mr Casey had already invested in business in Co. Kerry and that his program to attract children of Irish emigrants to spend time in the Gaeltacht would be of use. He had important business contacts in the US and Australia and could be "a great ambassador."

Nine of the 10 Fianna Fáil council members of the 33-member Council voted for Mr. Casey.

Eight Fine Gael council members abstained.
