An investigation is underway after suspected steroids were found in a soldier's room after he became violent, stolen and hospitalized.

The incident took place in a barrack in Dublin.

Military police conducted an investigation in his room and found an unidentified substance before informing gardaí.

His firearm was later taken out of his room.

The substance was sent for testing but gardaí believes they can be steroids, as well as legal health supplements.

No arrests have been made and investigations are still ongoing.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the armed forces denied rumors circulating on social media that another person had been threatened with a gun during the incident.

"At no stage was anyone threatened with a firearm," said the spokesperson.

He added that the case is being investigated at this time.

"After a search on Friday evening, a quantity of a hitherto unidentified substance was discovered, which was handed over to gardaí for research.

"A member of the Defense Forces was transferred to the hospital for medical research, where he remains under medical care," he said.

One source told the Irish Independent that a small amount of damage to property had been caused when the soldier initially became violent.

"On August 31st, the military police contacted gardaí stating that they had found a quantity of suspicious controlled substances in a military barracks," said a Garda spokesman.

"The substances will in due course be forwarded for forensic investigation."
