The ringing of the bells of St. Mel's Cathedral to launch the World Meeting of Families

Tomorrow all 26 dioceses of Ireland open the 9th World Meeting of Families at the same time with a special liturgical ceremony and with the ringing of the bells in each of the 26 diocesan cathedrals on the island. Family-friendly festivals also take place.

The WMOF Pastoral Congress takes place at the Royal Dublin Society on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of this week, while the Festival of Families is celebrated in Croke Park on Saturday afternoon. The Holy Father Pope Francis will take part in the WMOF celebrations when he visits Ireland on Saturday 25 August. WMOF will culminate in the closing papal mass at the Phoenix Park in Dublin on Sunday 26 August.

Tuesday's opening liturgy in each cathedral will be a complete celebration of the evening prayer. Under the name Le chéile le Críost (together with Christ), it will bring the church together as the families of families, while on the way to the celebration of the whole world meeting of the family. Representatives from each parish, together with international pilgrims, attend their respective cathedral. These liturgical celebrations will remind us that we are following in the footsteps of the saints and those who have given us the faith. The ceremonies include singing and praying hymns, psalms and songs, burning incense and praying for the entire human family for our God and Father. All are welcome!
