A priest at the funeral of Co Donegal crashes victim Shiva Blue Devine has told young people not to think they are invincible.
Fr Joseph O & # 39; Donnell spoke during the funeral of the 20-year-old in the St. Brigid's Church in Ballintra.
Hundreds of people stepped into the church overlooking Donegal Bay to give a final greeting to the mother-of-one.
Shiva died with friend Conall McAleer after the car in which they were both rear passengers hit a wall and then a lamppost in Bundoran at 3.25 pm on Sunday morning for the last time.
Fr O & # 39; Donnell told dozens of young mourners: "For all your young people here today, I tell you, you are not indestructible, you are very vulnerable, so treat your life carefully."
This was not the first time he had committed a funeral for a young person who was killed in such circumstances, he told mourners. The priest was also present at Letterkenny University Hospital in 2010 when the bodies of eight people killed in the Clonmany tragedy were taken to the mortuary.
The toll of that opportunity cost him two years to recover, he said. "I spent that Sunday evening and Monday morning comforting parents and their friends and leading them downstairs to identify their children.
"I had hoped that I would never have to face such a thing again, it took me two years to recover.
"Although the circumstances and details of the Sunday morning crash can be totally different, the only real fact is that young lives have been lost."
Among the mourners were Shiva's mother and father, Julian and Nicola, and extended family members.
Her three-year-old son Kyle, who wore a hat with red sequins, brought a CD to the altar as part of the offertory gifts.
Many of those at the funeral wore blue in honor of Shiva, including mother Nicole who wore a blue address and dark glasses.
The congregation was told that Shiva had put so much into her short life and always had fun.
She had no real time for modern music, but loved country and western.
In honor of this, Fr O & # 39; Donnell quoted the poem by Roger Turner, I grew up with country music.
Shiva was buried at the adjacent cemetery while hundreds of mourners later went to the nearby Ballintra Community Center for a drink to remember her life.
