Jordan Valley (MA) – The Israeli civil administration has issued a report on the uprooting of about 70 olive trees from Palestinian owners in the Jordan Valley, in the northern occupied West Bank.Moataz Bisharat, the Palestinian official responsible for the Israeli settlements in Jordan Valley with the Palestinian Authority (PA), said that the Israeli authorities have informed him that about 70 olive trees will be exterminated on the pretext that the area is archaeological.
Bisharat confirmed that the olive trees are owned by the Palestinian resident, Najib Turki Faqha.
Bisharat stressed that Israeli troops occupied tens of hectares of land in Palestinian hands in the area, allowing Israeli settlers to build new illegal Israeli settlements.
The Jordan Valley forms one third of the occupied West Bank, with 88 percent of its land classified as Area C – under full Israeli military control.
International rights organizations consider the continuation of the Israeli campaign against Palestinians in the Jordan Valley, although confiscation, demolition or expulsion under the pretext of military training, as a violation of international humanitarian law.
