ASUS ZenFone 6 revealed: Snapdragon 855 and rotating camera, from 499 euros

ASUS implemented a 6.4-inch screen without notch on the front. Three configurations for ZenFone 6, from 499 euros.

ASUS has just raised the curtain on ZenFone 6 during a conference in Valencia, in the beautiful surroundings of the City of Science. It is a top-quality smartphone that the Taiwanese company is trying to catch up with in the mobile device sector. To do this he decided to focus on the design and the photographic part, areas that never love this product really represent two sides of the same coin.

No notch and dual rotating camera

The front of ASUS ZenFone 6 is fully occupied by the screen, without any interruption. In fact there is no question of it and therefore the 6.4-inch screen shows off extremely small frames. The Taiwanese company has opted for an IPS LCD screen, characterized by Full-HD + resolution, 19.5: 9 aspect ratio and brightness that, at least on paper, should reach a peak brightness of 600 nits.

The elimination of the notch was possible thanks to the implementation of a mechanism with which the front dual camera can literally rotate in the front above the top edge. It is a system based on thirteen small scooters, which is inevitable Over time, the seal raises doubts. An aspect that we can investigate further in the assessment.

In any case, the dual camera consists of a 48 Megapixel main sensor (this is the Sony IMX586) f / 1.8 combined with a secondary sensor with 13 wide-angle lens of 125 megapixels. That is why ASUS has opted not to implement a telephoto lens, but on a fully digital zoom lens. A choice that could disadvantage this photographic sector in some areas.

In any case, beyond these aspects, you fully understand how the fact that you can use such a configuration, even for selfies, can really make a difference. Moreover, the ZenFone 6 is capable of recording video up to 4K resolution at 60 fps complete with electronic stabilization. During the conference, a film was shown that was made directly from the smartphone, and the quality really seemed to be of a high level.

Top hardware platform

Everything is moved by Qualcomm & # 39; s Snapdragon 855 combined with 6/8 GB RAM and 64/128/256 GB internal memory. From this point of view, ASUS has done it safely and, unless it generates surprises, ZenFone 6 has to deliver top performance. Among other things, there is also a 5000 mAh battery under the body, so there should be no problems, even at the level of autonomy (there is no fast charge).

The software part has finally been renewed, with the Zenui that in fact has almost been repressed by an experience due to Android shares. On board there is version 9 of the green robot, but the Taiwanese company has indicated how the update to Android Q is absolutely guaranteed. Not only that, but the ZenFone 6 will also be updated to Android R.

Finally, chapter parts and availability. It starts from 499 euros for the 6 Gigabyte version of RAM and 64 Gigabyte of storage space, which becomes 559 euros for the 6/128 GB-one and 599 for the 8/256 GB top. Objectively aggressive prices taking into account the technical functions that are available. We will see if the market responds positively.

Xiaomi Mi 9, in the 6 GB version of RAM and 64 GB of storage space, can be purchased via Amazon for 449.90 euros. You can find it on this link.
