Galapagos tortoises in the Riga Zoo on 6 September 2018, already 18 times!
Part of the country's attention has grown with hamburgers and pastas that eat championships, the others – fleeing bulls that have fled … The name Latvia is in turn close and far-fetched when he talks about weighing of a gigantic Galapagan tortoise. And here the most important thing was not the result, but the attention paid to the extinct species of the world and the role of the zoo in the conservation of endangered species, said Maris Lielkalns, representative of the Riga Zoo Information Service, to the portal La.lv.
This year Galapagas turtle Chelsea and Trine of the Galician Zoo in Riga will be reared for the 18th time, taken and weighed.
For the first time, on September 6 at 1:00 pm, the most powerful and experienced animal caretakers in the zoo go to the crates, which once the industrious all-time-heighted alpinist Chabulite did not even get hold of. Up to now, 17 times, Raimonds Bergmanis, a professor of lifting, weaving and weaving of turtles, who took the job, took a vacation until the following summer …
For the time being, the 25th year of the new Galapagan tortoise was returned to the Riga Zoo from Chicago in 1995 and Raimonds Bergmanis began to carry it and weigh it in the summer of 2001, when the powerful reptiles weighed only about 40 kilos. In 2017 the largest tortoise, Thrine, weighed 113 kg, while the weight of Chelsea weighed 89 kg.
It must be admitted that stable and predictable weight gain for large reptiles is not expected. Although Thrina became more important than a healthy nine kilos last year, her weight may fall this year, even though it is assumed that female reptiles of this species can reach as much as 150 kg, but it should be considered a theoretical opportunity.
Although the data on our weight loss in our shellfish is very valuable, because they help to adjust their dietary standards if the weight gain has become too fast or to identify the potential health problems that would appear from excessive weight loss.
For many years both the Olympic champion Viktors Ščerbatihs and the Latvian champion in the running of the woman and Mr. The Universe were Aivars Visockis, as well as Jolanta Logina, the armed forces fighter, Agris Kazeļņiks, Raivis Vidzis, the sleigh-runners-brothers , brothers Siciu and many others. A quick look at the beginning of weighing the turtle can be seen in the attached video!
