PUTRAJAYA: A social health insurance for households in the bottom 40 percent group (B40) will be introduced early January next year, Health Minister Dr said. Dzulkefly Ahmad.
He said that the discussion about the schema was in the final phase and would be extended to other categories of society, such as the middle 40 percent (M40).
The ministry, he said, was also in discussion with several quarters, including Bank Negara and the Ministry of Finance, about funding to fund the plan before it is included in the 2019 budget, he said.
"I want this schedule to be fined before it is submitted to the public," he told a media conference after the ministry's monthly meeting here yesterday.
He said social health insurance would be different from the 1Care 1Malaysia protection plan introduced by the previous government.
Prior to this, the deputy minister of health dr. Lee Boon Chye have said that under the proposed scheme, the government could provide insurance protection between RM10,000 and RM20,000 per year for their hospital bills.
