KUALA LUMPUR: The National Cost of Living Action Council will have its first meeting at the end of this month, says Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Minister of Internal Trade and Consumer Affairs.
He said that the meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail is planned to discuss six clusters that have contributed to the rising cost of living for people, namely food, housing, utilities, health, education and transportation.
"These areas contribute most to the cost of living," he said when he waved the debate about the motion of thanks for the royal address for his ministry in Dewan Negara yesterday.
He said that an action plan would be drawn up from this meeting and that the ministry concerned would be responsible for further action if it were to relate to a particular cluster.
Regarding the development during Ops Catut 5.0, which was taken with the introduction of sales and service tax (SST) from September 1, Saifuddin Nasution said that 3,084 warehouses had been inspected, involving 83,000 controlled goods.
In the three-day operation, conducted from Saturday, he said that 434 business premises received notifications under Article 21 of the Price Management and Anti-Money Act 2011 for a significant price increase.
