PUTRAJAYA, Sept. – A deputy director-general of a division in the Prime Minister's department with the honorary title "Datuk", which was removed by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to allow investigation into alleged misappropriation of the 14th general electoral funds, was released today .

Six administrative and diplomatic officials were also released, who were detained with the defendant in connection with the misappropriation of public funds worth millions of ringgit.

From August 28, they were in pre-trial detention for five days.

Magistrate Azizah Ahmad released the 49-year-old man and six others on bail of MACC and a guarantor.

The suspects were arrested on August 28 in the B complex, Prime Minister's department and MACC headquarters here after they had made their statements.

They were arrested to support research under Article 23 of the MACC Act 2009 for abuse of power. – Bernama
