DPM monitors Kelantan's preparation for flooding when monsoon rains arrive



KOTA BARU: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail visited the flood supply center in Kemumin, Pengkalan Chepa.

Dr. Wan Azizah, also chairman of the National Flood Disaster Management, spent about 30 minutes assessing the preparedness of floods by the Ministry of Welfare.

Also present were the director general of the department, Mohd Fazari Mohd Salleh, section chairman Samsuzuli Che Noh of the department, and state secretary Said Sidup of the state.

Earlier, Dr Wan Azizah, who is also Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, met with representatives of various non-governmental organizations of Universiti Sains Malaysia at Kubang Kerian to discuss their preparations for the coming monsoon season.

Next time, she is scheduled to attend a meeting on flood preparations on the east coast at Kompleks Kota Darulnaim.

Meanwhile, Mohd Fazari said that various food products have been prepared for potential victims of flooding, including milk, rice and biscuits.

He said that the supply is sufficient to accommodate about 13,000 flood victims for three to five days

"Leave for 341 welfare workers is not yet frozen, but this can change," he added.

Mohd Fazari said that some of the food supplies have already been shipped to mini-depots in all districts in the state. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
