PUTRAJAYA: The Economic Planning Unit (EPU), now under the jurisdiction of the Minister of Economic Affairs, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, will be upgraded to a full Ministry and will become known as the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
The EPU was formerly under the jurisdiction of the prime minister's department and was headed by a Director-General, but when it becomes a ministry, it will instead be led by the Secretary-General.
NSTP understands that the EPU restructuring and reprocessing process has gone through several stages of discussion with a complete ministry, including the top management of the unit.
The upgrading process for the unit or the increase to a ministry can be considered in time as the EPU is no longer a single entity run by Mohamed Azmin, but several new portfolios will also be managed jointly under the new ministry. when it reaches the operating state.
Currently the EPU operates from the office of the prime minister on block B5 and block B6, Presint 1, where it is led by Director General Datuk Nik Azman Nik Abdul Majid after his appointment to the post in June last year.
