Father, son found drowned in Sungai Langat, Bangi

Kajang: A father-son fishing trip made a tragic turn when they drowned in Sungai Langat at Taman Bangi Perdana, Bangi, here today.

The bodies of Roslan Ismail (49) and his son Ahmad Azri (18) were discovered by the staff of the Selagor Fire and Rescue Department (PPDA) by the riverbed at a depth of 3 meters and about 7 meters from the riverbank where they it was last seen before they fell into the river this morning.

Roslan's body was found at 1.52 am, while the body of Ahmad Azri was found four meters away at 2.20 pm.

According to the witness, Rashidi Yahya, 30, he said the incident occurred around 9:40 when he had just arrived on the river bank to fish.

"I had just arrived when I saw the heads of the victims and their waving arms in the water and then they disappeared." I was about 30 meters away from them, "he said when he was met by reporters on the spot today.

Meanwhile, the wife of the victim, Ajura Abdul Jalil (48), said that her husband who worked as a construction worker often went fishing in the river near their house.

"Almost every weekend he would go fishing alone, but today our second child wanted to join us on a fishing trip," she said with tears.

Bangi Fire and Rescue Station chief deputy Supt Rosman Majid said that the search operations were assisted by seven PPDA staff, along with five staff and two dogs from the Canine (K9) Detection Unit.

"The cause of the incident that remains to be determined and the remains are sent to the Serdang hospital for post-mortem", he added. – Bernama
