PONTIAN: A Bangladeshi citizen was sentenced to six years' imprisonment and eight months, as well as a fine of RM30,000, in default six months in jail, and two strokes of the stick by the Immigration Sessions Court in Pekan Nanas for 16 indictments under the Immigration Act.

Judge Zahilah Md Yusof handed the verdict to Md Mohiuddin Mamun, 40, who pleaded guilty to all charges.

Md Mohiuddin was charged with 14 counts of illegal possession of passports that were not his, while the other two were accusations for violating his social visit pass and for trying to forge a document for use as a visa or permit or pass under the Immigration Act.

The crimes were all committed at two locations in Jalan Wang Ah Fook, Johor Bahru, between 4 pm and 5 pm, last August 27.

For illegitimate possession of passports that did not belong to him, Md Mohiuddin was indicted under Section 12 (1) (f) of the Passport Act 1966, which provides for a maximum fine of RM10,000, or imprisonment of up to five years in prison, or both , by conviction.

He was sentenced to between 10 and 18 months at every charge.

On charges of violating his social visit card, made under Regulation 39 (b) of Immigration Regulations 1963, he was sentenced to two months' imprisonment.

Md Mohiuddin was sentenced to five years' imprisonment, a fine of RM30,000, a six-month prison sentence and two strokes of the stick, for falsifying documents.

The complaint was filed under Section 56 (1A) (a) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, read in conjunction with Section 55D of the same Act.

Zahilah ordered him to undergo all imprisonments simultaneously from the date of his arrest.

The prosecution was carried out by Deputy Deputy Assistant Director Norzuriana Muhammad Nor, while Md Mohiuddin was not represented. – Bernama
