PUTRAJAYA: Seven officials, including a senior officer, from the prime minister's office have been held in pre-trial detention for allegations that they have wrongly used GE14 funds.
They come from the research department of the prime minister's department.
One of the arrested is a deputy director general of the department, while the rest are administrative and diplomatic service (PTD) officials in grades between 44 and 48.
The suspects were arrested at their offices, while the chief officer was detained at the headquarters of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
Magistrate Shah Wira Abdul Halim allowed the seven to be returned five days until September 1st.
It has not been determined how much money this group has misappropriated, but the amount is supposed to be in the millions.
Earlier this month, another group of security personnel serving the Department of the Prime Minister was removed for alleged misuse of funds totaling RM3.5 million that were reportedly destined for the polls.
They were said to have taken the money from an office in the prime minister's office.
