JOHOR BARU: Johor police arrested 13 people, including one who escaped to Singapore because he reportedly abducted two teenagers here.
State CID chief Senior Asst Comm Kamaluddin Kassim said that on July 18 the police received a report from a family who said they had received a ransom after their 18-year-old son was abducted in Skudai.
"On August 19 we received a new report from a man at Paloh, Kluang, who said his 18-year-old son had also been kidnapped. A ransom was also demanded in the case," he said in a statement here on Wednesday (22 August).
SAC Kamaluddin said the police have set up a special task force to investigate the cases.
First research showed that the same group carried out the two kidnappings.
After this, the police arrested 10 suspects, four at a budget hotel along Jalan Wong Ah Fook here at 11.30 and the other six at a house in Yong Peng around 12.30 on Tuesday (August 21), he added.
SAC Kamaluddin said on the basis of the information gathered that the police attacked a house in Pagoh on Tuesday (21 August) at 23.30 hours and arrested two other male suspects. They also succeeded in saving one of the victims who were locked up in one of the rooms.
"With the help of our counterparts in Singapore we were able to arrest a suspect who had fled there.
"After interrogating the suspects, the police found the burnt skeletal remains on a rubbish dump in Pagoh," he said, adding that a DNA test was performed to find out if the remains of the other victim were.
SAC Kamaluddin said that the suspects, between 19 and 39, will be sent back to September 1 to support investigation under Section 3 of the Kidnap Act 1961 and Section 302 of the Criminal Code for murder.
