PETALE JAYAMalaysia has saved a fine of RM500 million after reaching an agreement with Singapore on a two-year postponement of the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High-Speed Rail (HSR) project.
The Edge Malaysia reported that the postponement would be in force until May 31, 2020 "in a spirit of good neighborliness".
The company wades an unnamed source and says: "It is worth noting that the legally binding agreement between the two nations for the project, signed in 2016, does not contain any provisions for such a postponement".
The source added that Singapore could financially recognize the tension that the construction of the project had on Malaysia.
Minister of Economic Affairs Datuk Seri Azmin Ali led a Malaysian team to negotiate the agreement a few days ago. He held meetings with the Minister of Transport, Khaw Boon Wan, and Vivian Balakrishnan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic.
