Man held for quick kick on firefighter about slow reaction – Nation

KOTA KINABALU: A firefighter was attacked by a villager while extinguishing fire in the Kg Gelam squat in Sandakan.

The attacker, whose house was on fire, reportedly kicked the firefighter and punched him while he was angry that they were slow to come on the spot.

According to a local officer, the attacked firefighter was not injured and he continued to work to put out the fire that destroyed at least 35 houses with squatters during the 2-minute incident yesterday.

The attacker was taken to the police station.

Sandakan Chief of Police Asst Comm Azhar Hamin said the man was detained under Article 186 of the Criminal Code because he had disrupted an official to fulfill his duty.

"We will also request a pre-trial detention to the suspect," he said.

He also added that a report on the incident had been filed.
