KAJANG, August 21 – MCA candidate Tan Chee Teong held a ceramah outside a night market here, but only a handful of people showed up.
In fact, around 20 bystanders turned out to be MCA supporters in party T-shirts who showed support for their Balakong candidate.
One man who spoke Malaysian postsaid Tee would not stand a chance to win the interim election in the state of the Selangor state against DAP.
Yet the political newcomer opened his self-confidence by presenting himself as "a local boy who understands local problems better than anyone else".
"I was born here, grew up here and even got married here, I know all the problems here.
"When the time comes, do not forget to choose me," he said to cheer by his party members.
The seat of the Balakong was declared vacant after the death of his mechanics Eddie Ng on 20 July.
The midterm election will be a straight fight between Pakatan Harapan's (PH) Wong Siew Ki and MCA's Tan.
The early vote for the election of Balakong took place on September 4, the voting day is September 8th.
