LANGKAWI: Four Malaysian fishermen who were kidnapped yesterday by a group of armed men in the waters off Pulau Langgun are safe in Thai police custody.
Langkawi OCPD Supt Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said Abdul Rahman Omar, 42, Hamzah Yaakob, 34, Malik Mat, 52, and Mad Rapi, in his years & # 39; 20, were rescued by the Thai police.
"They are now at the Satun police station (in southern Thailand)," he said when he contacted Bernama yesterday. At 8 o'clock on Sunday, 11 fishermen from Kampung Kilim were robbed here by 12 Thai armed men near Pulau Langgun.
A Marine Operations Force team saved seven fishermen and later captured four of the Thai pirates.
The police received an emergency call from an owner of a fishing boat to report the theft of his boat at Pulau Langgun.
Supt Mohd Iqbal said that two boats were stopped by the 12 Thai citizens who were also on two boats. One of the boats carrying the remaining eight Thai pirates and the four Malaysian fishermen escaped in Thai waters.
The four Thai suspects are put back in pre-trial detention seven days after the order.
