NIOSH introduces SHO for IPT program to reduce accidents in the workplace – BorneoPost Online | Borneo, Malaysia, Sarawak Daily News



SIBU: The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) has introduced a special initiative for future employees seeking technical and vocational education and training (TVET) to help reduce accidents in the workplace.

"Known as Safety and Health Officer for Institution of Higher Learning or SHO for IPT Program, it offers TVET students the opportunity to obtain a professional competency certificate while they are studying in IPT," said NIOSH President. Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye yesterday through a media statement.

"SHO for IPT the program is 100% handled by NIOSH and implemented at IPT buildings to minimize costs and maintain quality," Lee added.

He further explained that the NIOSH will also organize workshops for the preparation of the research and will prepare four complete exam articles for the program.

This new initiative will help to ensure that more employees with occupational health and safety (OSH) skills will be serving the OSH n. eeds of industries.

According to Lee, it will also benefit employers to have young employees equipped with knowledge and certificates from OSH.

"This program is part of NIOSH's efforts to help future workers and reduce accidents at work in the country," he said.

Higher education institutions who are interested in the program can contact NIOSH for further information, he concluded.
