KUALA LUMPUR, Aug. 21 – Racial-based politics is not as bad as they seem, they are motivated by nationalism, said MIC leader Datuk C. Sivarraajh.
The headquarters of the MIC youth section – a political party founded exclusively for local ethnic Indians here – predicted that racial-based politics would continue to dictate the outcome of the next few national polls.
He added that this would mean that MIC could therefore still make a comeback in the political arena.

"I fully acknowledge that today's young people have a tendency to do this [reject] racial-based policies, but I believe that racial-based politics is not as bad as it is portrayed, "he said.
Sivarraajh pointed out that Umno splinter Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) and DAP, despite championship-focused inclusiveness, were still parties largely dominated by one race, respectively Malay and ethnic Chinese.
"Honestly, I still believe that racial-based politics will play a role in the next election, not only because of politics, but because of the deep-rooted sense of nationalism among many ordinary Malaysians," he said.
Sivarraajh said, however, that there is a need for a more "middle-path-based politics", which he would constantly advocate.
"So I would rather believe that the need of today's party is to revive and regain its course and direction over the years," he added.
