GEORGE TOWN: After the reappointment of the president of the municipal council of Seberang Prai (MPSP), Datuk Rozali Mohamud wants to improve the recycling percentage of the municipality to 70% of the current 42% as part of the green and environmentally friendly initiatives of the Penang government.
At a press conference today, shortly after he took his oath, Rozali told reporters that the largest community in the nation has focused on that benchmark, because only because of this the council can meet its green target and also reduce carbon emissions.
Apart from this, a series of programs has also been drawn up to make the municipality a smart and accessible city.
"We will strive harder to make Penang the first green state," he said in the presence of Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, exco members and secretary of state Datuk Seri Farizan Darus.
Rozali had extended his tenure as president of MPSP until December 31 next year after a consensus of the exco.
Chow had previously praised the reappointment of Rozali and said that the latter was the first MPSP president to be promoted from the inside in July last year.
He added that Rozali will lead the MPSP to greater heights based on his board experience all this time.
Rozali, who started his service in the government as surveyor at the valuation and property services department of the Ministry of Finance in 1982, joined MPSP in 1990 as assistant director of the Valuation Department.
He led the department in 2002 before becoming the secretary of the board in 2011.
