KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Communications and Multimedia said that telecommunications companies were given until August 31 to complete discussions on reducing broadband tariffs in the country.
Initially the telcos were given until 31 July to do this.
In a statement, the ministry said it decided to extend the deadline after receiving requests for more time from stakeholders.
The statement was also a response to inaccurate reports from some news portals that the ministry would take strong action against telcos that do not reduce broadband rates by the end of the month.
On 20 June, the Minister of Communications and Multi-Media, Gobind Singh Deo, said that lower broadband tariffs would be offered to subscribers by the end of the year.
