KUALA LUMPUR, August 26 – Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong said today that he is willing to be nominated as MCA president to replace Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai who will resign.

The vice-chairman of the party was quoted in: the sun that the responsibility to take the challenge and reform the party falls on him as the only MP of the party.

"I will focus on internal reforms in MCA if I become the president," said the Johor MCA president reportedly after leading the Johor Baru MCA department meeting.

Wee told reporters that he has received support from various departments for the party elections held in November.

He said he will leave deputies to choose their own nominees for the number two, saying that he does not want to create factions under the party.

In the polls on 9 May, Wee held the Ayer Hitam seat against the Liew Chin Tong of DAP with a majority of only 303 votes.

However, there is still a demand for Wee's health, where his physical appearance seems to have worsened in the past few years.

In 2016 he had undergone spine surgery abroad, followed by a period of recovery.
