ENHYPEN has officially made their highly anticipated debut!
On November 30th, the group held a showcase for their first mini-album “BORDER: DAY ONE”.
The members started expressing their feelings about their debut. Jungwon said, “I am very nervous, but thank you very much for your support. Although I am nervous, I want to do well today. Jake said, “I’m nervous thinking about how we show everyone our songs and performances for the first time.”
Jay said, “It doesn’t feel real, but I will work as hard as I prepare.” Heeseung added, “I’m nervous, but I’ll show everyone a good performance.” Sunghoon said, “I am nervous and excited, but since all seven members have worked so hard and fans around the world have supported us, I will reward everyone with a good performance.”
Ni-ki commented, “Thinking about how many people look at us makes me nervous.” Finally, Sunoo said, “Today is a very happy day when our dream of debuting finally comes true.”
The group’s leader, Jungwon, is one of the group’s younger members. When asked how the leader was chosen, Heeseung said they went through several tests and interviews. “Both Jungwon and I were candidates for the position, but I thought I would prefer the role of the oldest member or teammate,” he explains.
Jungwon expressed his gratitude to the members for their selection, saying, “I was surprised and grateful that the members chose me. I will work hard to lead them. “
ENHYPEN’s debut album features stories that express the complicated emotions of the seven members facing their first day in a new world. Heeseung described the album as follows: “We recorded the emotions we felt as trainees who become artists and as individuals who become idol groups. Through our achievements, we expressed connection, discovery, and the concerns we face during the growth process. “
The title track “Given-Taken” is a dark and energetic pop hip-hop track that reveals the complicated emotions of the members who are on a new starting line after fulfilling their dream of debut. The song title refers to whether the members “gave” their debut or whether they “took” it themselves.
Sunoo explained, “While we are happy now, we are also concerned. The song conveys those kinds of conflicting emotions. “
Regarding the group’s experience filming for the Mnet competition show “I-LAND,” Jungwon noted, “I couldn’t even check my phone while filming, so I didn’t hear much feedback.” He then added, “We have gained strength and were able to work together as a team thanks to the support of fans around the world.”
When asked if they had received advice from Bang Si Hyuk, the members revealed that he gave them a congratulatory phone call the day after the group was officially formed. They said, “He told us that there are no artists in K-pop without fans, and we shouldn’t forget that it’s the love of our fans around the world that brought us here.” Ni-ki added, “He said we should become happy musicians.”
Jay then spoke of meeting the members of BTS on “I-LAND”, who gave them presents as well as their own advice. He revealed, “They said they hoped we would have faith in and love ourselves, and they said that going on when the going gets tough will become our driving force.”
Speaking of the influence they have gained from BTS, the group commented, “We dreamed of becoming artists while watching BTS. We want to be able to show the world what we are made of. “
Sunoo also talked about SEVENTEEN’s visit to the show. “We showed them our performance rehearsal and they gave us a lot of compliments. They also taught us the choreography and told us that facial expressions are important. He added, “We will remember their advice and use it as a basis for better performance.”
Jake then revealed the group’s goals by saying, “ While I’m promoting as fourth-generation idols, I want to hear we’re an emerging trend. I want to follow in the footsteps of our older artists with good music and performances. “
Notably, ENHYPEN’s debut album surpassed 300,000 pre-orders in stock just three weeks after pre-orders opened, proving the group’s worldwide support.
Sunoo said: “We did a few live broadcasts and were surprised to see all the reactions from fans. We wanted to make the fans feel like they were with us by sharing our daily life and talking about how we were preparing for our debut. ”
