How Liverpool could play against Ajax in the line-up with Sadio Mane and Joel Matip on their way back

Jurgen Klopp is expected to welcome Sadio Mané and Joel Matip into the base of the match between Liverpool and Ajax tonight.

The pair were dropped from the team to play Brighton on Saturday, with Mane appearing alone from the bench.

Matip resumes his partnership with Fabinho, who continues to fill the heart of the defense.

Neco Williams is ready to replace injured Trent Alexander-Arnold, while Andy Robertson is reprising his usual left-back role.

Curtis Jones, who didn’t play this weekend after showing some discomfort during practice, will be part of a midfield trio alongside Jordan Henderson and Giorginio Winaldum.

Sadio Mane starts at Anfield

Diogo Jota is the club’s top scorer in Europe and found the net again on Saturday.

However, he plans to fall to the bench if Klopp turns to the regular front three of Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.

The German saw his side win in Amsterdam thanks to a bizarre own goal.

Their perfect record in Group D, however, was ended by Atalanta at Anfield last weekend and Klopp expects a tough challenge with a qualifying on the brink of failure.

He said: “They have had to adapt in recent seasons after losing a few players to rival clubs. I remember from my own experience at Dortmund what that feels like and what a challenge it is.

Predicted start XI

“How they deal with it is exceptional. The base of the team remains solid and they have recruited well. They have a clear identity. I love to watch them, I must say.

“I think they are as dangerous an opponent at this stage of the competition as you can get.

“It is no surprise that this group is so tight and will probably go to the last round to be decided.

Liverpool predicted line-up: Alisson; N Williams, Fabinho, Matip, Robertson; Jones, Henderson, Wijnaldum; Salah, Firmino, Mane
