MEXICO CITY (APR) .- The president of the Mexican Federation for Archery, Effy Sánchez, has been arrested in Merida, Yucatán, since 2017 for a complaint filed by the National Committee for Physical Culture and Sport (Conade).

Responsible Mexican archery was indicted by the Office for the Attorney General of the Republic (PGR) for alleged embezzlement, with apocryphal invoices for more than 4.1 million pesos.

In addition, Sánchez still faces the Tax Administration (SAT) trial for tax evasion of around 43 million pesos.

"As far as I understand, the arrest warrant is intended to obscure the display of 31 apocryphal invoices for an amount of more than four million 100 thousand pesos," the head of the Conade, Alfredo Castillo, said after confirming the capture of the former president of the Mexican Federation of Archery.

The federal official assured that Effy Sánchez received funds from the Commission, which he tried to prove with false invoices.

"As a result of the above, there was a clear patrimonial damage, for the same reason that they were not justified, outside the fraud to by presenting those accounts," he said.

Sanchez was undetectable since the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, after allegations of the Conade for financial irregularities, the lack of verifications and apocryphal invoices.

In December of the same year, the president of the Mexican Federation of Athletics Associations (FMAA), Antonio Lozano, was arrested by the PGR at the airport in Mexico City, accused by the Commission for the crime of embezzlement amount of 4.8 million pesos.

The manager was transferred to the South Prison and released 22 days later after paying a bond. However, the trial against him remains open. He can not even travel abroad. After his release, Lozano resumed work at the FMAA.

Since his arrival at the Commission, Alfredo Castillo has taken legal action against presumably corrupt presidents of national sport federations. Under these actions he asked for audits and arrest warrants were issued against those responsible for the athletics, archery, rowing and baseball federations, of which the president, Alonso Pérez, died in September 2016.
