Morocco and Spain are discussing the closure of Melilla's customs

Just over a month after the Moroccan authorities' decision to close the customs post of Melilla trucks completely, an emergency meeting is expected to take place between the two countries in the coming days.

According to the Spanish media, a meeting between the Director of Customs, Nabyl Lakhdar and the Director-General of the Spanish Customs, María Pilar Jurado Borrego, should take place to try to respond to the grievances of companies in Melilla who say they are disturbed since the closure border post.

In early August, without consulting the neighboring country, Morocco unilaterally decided to relocate customs clearance services to the port of Beni Ensar. This decision is aimed at the fight against human smuggling, the informal and aims to revive the Moroccan port.

This border post was opened at the request of Morocco at the end of the 1950s.
