The Postacademic Part-Time Education Journalism (PDOJ) in Rotterdam stops. The journalist school immediately ceases to exist after thirty years. The training received fewer and fewer applications, due to competition from other studies and due to the poor prospects for a job.
The PDOJ was founded in 1989 by the newspapers and the Erasmus University. People who had already graduated in other disciplines could learn the journalistic profession here.
"In the past we received a hundred applications and we were able to pick out the twenty best", says Ad Hofstede, director of Erasmus Academie. The last PDOJ-education consisted of eighteen students. Fourteen of them received their diploma last week, the other four were off on the way.
