Mayor Jos Wienen of Haarlem is disappointed that it is necessary in 'our open and democratic society' that there should be visible heavily armed police officers in front of the city hall on the Grote Markt.
In a statement he said that these measures were taken by the care about his safety.
Wienen says that the police and the Public Prosecution Service are doing their utmost to let him work in a safe environment as mayor.
"The measures were used to guarantee not only my safety, but also that of the officials and visitors," says Wienen.
He regrets that because of the measures ,, Haarlemmers, civil servants and visitors of our beautiful city are bothered by this or feel unsafe. ''
