The wisent, also known as European bison, is a rare animal. The species disappeared from the wild about 100 years ago, but now makes a comeback. Since 2007 there have been wisents in the Kraansvlak near Zandvoort; Maashorst and Veluwe followed in 2016.
The research shows that more than a year is needed to get used to and that visitors must keep a distance of at least fifty meters. If people do not, then there is a chance that a wisent takes a threatening stance or uses a defensive attack.
